Music for All: Community Outreach
As a professional musician, any organization that brings music to people’s lives is dear to my heart. Christ Church Cathedral is very special to me because of its rich heritage and dedication to bringing music to the people of Indianapolis. Known as ‘the little church on Monument Circle’, it was founded in 1837, commissioned to be built by Col. Eli Lilly. His granddaughter, the late Ruth Lilly, funded the construction of The Ruth Lilly Memorial Gallery Organ, one of three magnificent organs in the church. The Lilly family contributed many donations to the church in foundation for the Arts, just as they funded the Jordan College of Fine Arts building at Butler University, where I received my degree in Music.

My experience working with the church I have recently begun to call my home has been very rewarding. As I have been learning its history, it became important for me to share what I love about it with others. I enjoyed being able to photograph this history in the making, from my own choral rehearsals, to performances by the other choirs, and also the fabulous instruments that create the beautiful music heard during the Eucharist and the concerts. Being able to work together with people that care as much as I do about the importance of music in people’s lives was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
